…on such a winters day!
San Francisco, CA
San Francisco was our first destination on this family trip. It was brilliant being able to fly here direct with Aer Lingus. Our return flights cost €705 each (booked 9 months in advance). We stayed in Hotel Zeppelin on Union Square and it was the ideal location right in the middle of the city. The hotel itself was really reasonable and it’s super funky and fun, suitable for families or couples. As it was Halloween, SF was pretty vibrant to say the least when we arrived. Tour wise, we had booked tickets online to do the night tour of Alcatraz 3 months in advance. I think it was definitely the best time to do the tour and it was about $60 each. We also spent a day on the ‘hop on hop off’ Big Bus tour of SF. It was about $40 each. We didn’t have the greatest experience, our initial tour guide was quite hard to understand but after hopping off to explore the Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Street, Union Street area & Mrs Doubtfires house we hopped back on to a much better experience. I would love to do it again because we missed out on information around Haight-Ashbury and the Tenderloin district. We explored Fisherman’s Wharf and the Botanic Garden ourselves and enjoyed the best of the weather on those days. I think 3 nights is the perfect amount of time to really get a feel for San Francisco and see all of the attractions + squeeze in some shopping! [Read more…]
